Major Identifying Features: Three different types, varied carpet beetle, furniture carpet beetle, and black carpet beetle, black or brown in color, loose skin when they molt

Life Cycle: All three have similar life cycles, adults lay eggs on a larval food source such as woolen fabric or carpets, or furs, adults eat pollen and nectar, larva eats fabrics,

Pest Rating: Moderate

Management Rating: Difficult

Host/Season/Outbreak Information: Pests in warehouses,homes, museums, woollen fabric, carpets, furs, prefer dark and secluded places

Damage Information: Cause damage to fabrics, carpets, furs, stored food, and preserved specimens during the larval stage

Management Options: Difficult, sanitation and exclusion are the preferred methods, monitoring program with sticky traps baited with an appropriate pheromone, elimination of lint, hair, dead insects, debris, old spider webs, rodent, bee, wasp nests, examination of cut flowers, securing window screens, prevention by cleaning, regular vacuuming, clean clothes, chemical with fumigants (only by professionals), moth balls, resin strips, physical control with heat, Warning on the use of chemicals!
